Brief History of BDI
The Behavioural Dynamics Institute (BDI) was formed out of the Behavioural Dynamics Working Group, which consisted of Professor Adrian Furnham, Professor Barrie Gunter, Professor Bruce Dakowski, David Fellowes and Nigel Oakes.
The original foundations of the Methodology were presented at Harvard Business School to Professor Emeritus Chris Argyris in 1993 and the concept was then socialised within the academic community. Over the last 20 years, leading social scientists from a wide range of disciplines have added to and refined various aspects of the Methodology — incorporating the best available field-work techniques; synthesising new theories; providing better empirical validation; and adopting the most appropriate problem structuring and modelling approaches. The development of the Methodology continues around the world. Today, the ever-increasing pace of communication and intervention implementation enables even greater feedback, hastening ongoing improvement.
